BEACH TOURS

ATV BEACH & MOUNTAIN

Being one of the most popular tours, this Mountain Tour is considered one of the most exciting trips across the dry forest of the Guanacaste region. The incredible views from the top of the mountains and wildlife will make this tour simply unforgettable.

You leave from Panama Beach heading to Sardinal mountain road, to reach the town of Sardinal, there is a stop in the park of Sardinal to get some water or supermarket shopping (10-15 minutes), back to Santa Rita, there is a stop for using bathrooms if necessary, and then return over the mountain to Panama beach. Watch out! Sometimes, monkeys, birds, cows, and horses make a nice traffic jam.

SLOTHS AND MORE

The sloth is one of the most emblematic animals of Costa Rican fauna. These small and friendly creatures are sweet and beautiful, and always appear to be happy, with an eternal smile painted on their faces.

We would love for you to join us for a short hike through the secondary rainforest to try to locate them. This trail is only 2 km. (1.25 miles) and is designed with the entire family in mind. It is very common to spot these small mammals hiding among the vegetation. But our expert guides know all their secrets and tricks! We will also learn interesting facts about some of the fabulous plants we spot along the way.

EARLY BIRDWATCHING

Costa Rica is a great place for bird watching with more than 850 species of birds. The tour takes place in local private reserves, which are close to distances from most hotels. With your experienced naturalist guide, you will be able to see some of the following striking species; The Cattle Egret, Crested Caracara, Laughing Hawk, and Squirrel Cuckoo, just to name a few. Our experience guides carry binoculars and field manuals to help you understand and learn about these magnificent birds. Witnessing these spectacular birds is optimized early in the morning or when the day cools into the evening when they are most active.

BIRDWATCHING

WHALES AND DOLPHINS

This tour is the best option to see the most of the Marino Ballena National Park. The Boat departs from Punta Uvita Beach after a safety briefing from our guide. This trip explores the Marino Ballena National Park searching for the majestic Humpback Whales  and for other marine wildlife such as the Pacific spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins , seabirds (pelicans, frigate birds, brown boobies and more) , and  sea turtles. Water visibility is typically great during the dry season ( December through April ) , so we will try to maximize this opportunity for you , and allow for some snorkeling (3-5 meters to 9-15 feet deep)  at whale island, also referred to as “whale rock,” and also to the Whale’s tail ( if tides allow ) where you can observe turtles, bi-color parrot fish, Angel fish, puffer fish and much more. During the rainy season ( June to November ) you will  get the opportunity to enjoy a dip in the ocean instead of snorkeling ! .Additionally on this trip, we’ll pass by the incredible natural formation of the whale’s tail and a brief pass by Ventanas beach to see and learn about the wonderful marine caves that were carved by the ocean. Depending on the ocean tides, we’ll either briefly stop at Ventanas or Arco beach to enjoy some fresh fruits.

VOLCANO TOURS

ARENAL VOLCANO HIKE

The tour begins in the northwest area of the volcano was the area with the most volcanic activity in the last period of eruptions. Once there, we start a walk on the trails that crosses the regenerating forest area and crosses over a large block of petrified lava, produced by past eruptions, steep slopes, and sandy soils. It is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife, and magnificent rock formations, in addition to the volcanic landscape, the place offers a wonderful view of Lake Arenal. 

During the tour, your experienced guides will provide you with interesting and educational information regarding the history of the Volcano, lithological cycles, forest formation processes, and general volcanology.

RINCON DE LA VIEJA

One of the best places in the country for hiking, the quality of its trails, its great weather, the quantity of fauna and flora, the panoramic views, and all the residual volcanic activity such as boiling mud pools and fumaroles that you will find as you walk these trail, all these characteristics plus our tour guides, makes these tour a very unique and special one. With our bilingual naturalist guide, you can continue walking the path through the tropical forest to enjoy the best views of the volcano, incredible nature, volcanic activity, and wildlife. In the park live more than 300 species of birds, and many other animals, such as armadillos, peccaries, iguanas, coatis, white-faced, howler, and spider monkeys. Combined with a stop in Liberia City for lunchtime, shopping, and educational information about history and culture. You can walk around the center of Liberia and have a glimpse of what was the white city. Historically, Liberia has been called "La Ciudad Blanca" because of its white adobe houses, white dirt roads, and its people who dressed all in white because of the extreme heat. You have the opportunity to buy some souvenirs in this city.

POAS VOLCANO COMBO

Depart San José heading towards Alajuela, first stop at Doka Estate for a tour of the coffee plantations. Next, a walk inside Poás Volcano National Park, observing the main crater, and concluding the trip with a visit to La Paz Waterfall where you may explore the animal rescue center and admire the impressive waterfall.

RIO CELESTE

LA LEONA WATERFALL

Located in Curubandé, Guanacaste near Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. We will walk in the forest next to the blanco river that comes from the volcano, go around incredible rock formations, cross streams of water, go up small ladders until at the very end we will pull ourselves with a rope inside the water to get into a big cave to see La Leona Waterfall.

  • Distance: 2km each way (1.5 miles each way)

  • Duration: 3hrs total from start to finish

  • Difficulty: Treacherous Hike Moderate Level

  • This tour IS NOT an easy walk in the park, this is an Adventure Tour.

RIVER ADVENTURE

This tour starts with an exciting tubing adventure. Enjoy non-stop fun and excitement bouncing and splashing down 5 km (3 miles) of class 2 and 3 rapids along this narrow, rushing river of crystal clear water. There are plenty of quiet pools along the way to appreciate the beautiful tropical scenery of the Rio Negro (Black River). Our special, individual river tube rafts are designed with handles and protective bottoms. Guides go with you and ensure your safety. After that, you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at La Hacienda restaurant.

Finally, relax into the volcanic hot springs at Hacienda Guachipelin which bubble up on the Rio Negro, naturally heated by the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano – the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. You can use hot volcanic mud, which allows you to have a spa-like treatment on your entire body.

Cables stretch from mountain to mountain, reaching incredible lengths and heights, crossing canyons, going into the forests, and even sometimes in between clouds. PACUARE RAFTING

Raft one of the top 10 whitewater rivers in the world: the renowned Pacuare. This unforgettable Costa Rica one-day trip will be the highlight of your time here!

The Pacuare River is famous for its magnificent beauty and world-class whitewater. Our one-day trip takes you down 19 miles (29 km) of Class 3 & 4 rapids through remote rainforest past cascading waterfalls and exotic wildlife.

Your adventure begins when we pick you up from your San Jose area hotel. On the way to the Pacuare River, you will stop for breakfast. When you arrive at the rafting put-in, you will meet your certified rafting guides and get outfitted with all necessary equipment. They will give you a comprehensive rafting safety talk and instruct you on paddling basics.

Then, you and your group will begin to paddle deep into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primary rainforests. It’s an adrenaline-packed day running the Pacuare’s thrilling rapids. Along the way, you will pass our National Geographic award-winning ecolodge, where guests stay in the rainforest on our overnight and multi-day adventure trips. A picnic lunch, prepared by your guides, will be served at one of the beautiful riverside beaches. When you reach the take-out point, you will go to a place where you can shower and change clothes and then return to San Jose.

ISLA TORTUGA

Discover the magic of a dream island, Isla Tortuga (Tortuga Island). It is located in the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica, 12 nautical miles from Puntarenas, Isla Tortuga (called Tolinga by local indigenous) has an area of 120 hectares (296,52 acres) and remains as a protected forest that has awarded the Bandera Azul Ecológica ecological certification (Ecological Blue Flag) for more than five years. This distinction is given to the Costa Rican beaches that have their waters free of pollution. Because of its geographical feature, its waters are turquoise and are great for swimming.

BAY ISLAND CRUISE

CROCODILE SAFARI

Come observe the Great American Crocodile in our famous river safari on the Tárcoles River. Our captain will surely spot the biggest crocodiles in the river for you to enjoy a great up-close encounter with these magnificent reptiles. You will be amazed by the wide diversity of birds we find in this area. Your guide will point out different kinds of mammals, birds, and reptiles that flourish in this mangrove system. Depending on the season, you will be able to spot different migratory aviary species; from October to April, you can glimpse ospreys, gulls, cormorants, pelicans, and frigates. The Tárcoles River is a shelter for approximately 56 types of birds and is a refuge for the famous scarlet macaws as well.

SUNSET CATAMARAN

Departing from the beach in Tamarindo at 1:30 pm you will enjoy a four and one half hour (4 1/2) hour sail along Costa Rica's spectacular coastline in one of the purpose built catamarans found within the Marlin del Rey Sailing Tours fleet - the 66 foot Marlin del Rey, the 65 foot New Marlin or the 65 foot Marlin Tres.  All are open and spacious which allows our passengers to comfortably enjoy the blue water views of the glorious Costa Rican coastline with its pristine beaches and verdant jungles from the bow trampolines, lounge on the roof deck, man the wheel with the captain or relax, one of the oversized tables found in the shaded area of the main salon and ultimately experience one of the brilliant Costa Rican sunsets.

 

Upon departing Tamarindo we will leisurely sail along the Gold Coast will searching for and hopefully observing some of the vast, abundant and varied sea life found along our shores.  Some of the sea life we hope to encounter includes whales, dolphins, turtles, flying fish, rays and a wide variety of sea birds.  If conditions permit we will also throw a few fishing lines off the back in the hopes of hooking into one of the many game fish that ply our waters.

 

Eventually we pull into one of the many secluded bays in the area, throw anchor and allow our passengers the opportunity to swim in the warm Costa Rican waters.  Life vests, pool noodles and snorkel equipment are available should weather conditions permit.  For those passengers not wanting to get wet the catamaran is a great place to relax in the shade of the huge main salon or lounge in the sun on one of the many open deck areas.

Following our time playing in the water, a light lunch is served.  Lunch is served at approximately 4:00 pm and includes the following:

 

BBQ  Chicken, yellow rice, fresh fruit plates, chips (Doritos, Cheetos, Tostitos and Ruffles), dips (fresh homemade beans and pico de gallo) and fresh baked cookies

WHAT TO BRING

​Sandals, bathing suit, sunscreen, change of clothes.

PLEASE NOTE

  • We do not provide beach towels so it is recommended that you bring your own.

  • Lunch is served at approximately 3:30 pm so it is best if you eat something prior to the tours departure.

  • Everything is included in the tour so cash is not needed unless you wish to tip the crew or purchase a souvenir t-shirt.

  • Smoking is prohibited.

  • We don’t board any passenger under the influence of alcohol

  • All passengers must be barefoot on board, there’s a selected area to leave the sandals.

  • All passenger must use Lifeguard jackets and flotation device or "noodle" while snorkeling.

  • Do not jump into the water while the boat is in motion or while the engines are turned on.

  • To access the boat's bathrooms you must go down three steps, this could be very hard for people with mobility impairments.

  • Snorkeling spots are part of a wild environment. Conditions are significantly altered by weather, seasons, sea conditions, human impact and climate events. These conditions change day to day and hour to hour. The crew does its best to find the best snorkeling spot for the day of the tour. Unfortunately there are times the spot chosen is less than optimal.
